Basil is an herb that is part of the mint family. It is considered the king of herbs, and the law, as basil is translated as king in Greek. This is reminiscent of mint in appearance. It is characterized by silky, green pointy leaves that stand out with white flowers.
Basil can reach a height of 30-130 cm. It grows best in direct sunlight in hot dry conditions and extremely sensitive to cold. It is native in areas of India and Iran, and has a history which stretches back more than 5,000 years. Cultivation spread grass for the southern European countries, Australia, Canada and the United States.
It is characterized by a unique and very strong smell and taste of the other, which resembles anise or licorice. There are several different varieties of basil. It is estimated that there are about 50-150 species of basil.
Types of basil are sometimes separated by regions where they are grown which is Asian and the Mediterranean Basil. Asian Basil, as they say, has the taste of cloves. Popular types include holy basil, which is grown in China and lemon basil, which is used most often in Indonesia and is characterized by its lemon scent.
Basil contains many different properties that make it very useful. This is an excellent source of vitamin A and C. It also contains iron, calcium, potassium, manganese, magnesium and fiber. It also contains other components that are added to improve the quality of their health.
